An unnamed Delphinium grown at Home Farm

Out and about

We have an ever growing list of plant and garden fairs that we attend each year. The majority of stall holders grow their own produce and most are specialist nurseries.
These events are a mind of information for even the most experienced of gardeners, so why not come along.

  • Many Perennials for saleThe story so far - The Nursery

After leaving school at 16 I started working as a trainee nurseryman at a traditional growing nursery (Hyrons Nursery, Amersham, Bucks). I successfully completed a 3 year, day release course but the nursery was always where I was happiest and learnt so much. Sadly the nursery succumbed to the developers many years ago but I still meet people who say they miss the nursery because it propagated the vast majority of the plants and therefore knew about them. It was during this time the seeds were sown of one day starting my own nursery.

My next stop was a larger nursery, still growing and propagating, but not such a Family nursery (thirsty work!)broad range of plants. I was mainly involved with Fuschias, Geraniums, Dahlias etc. The latter being what they are famous for, which probably explains why we grow so many Dahlias for our P.Y.O. area on the nursery. I still gained valuable experience and it was another step towards my own nursery.

Perennials from £2.00I eventually started up my own very successful garden maintenance business. A nursery was still my dream and having met my wife, Nina, whose parents happened to own a farm (not the reason why I married her) and after some discussion, a few years and two children later (future help) Home Farm Plants (Bovingdon) was born.
